CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Gov. Matt Mead says too many workers die on the job in Wyoming and the state needs to keep working to improve its workplace safety.
The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services reports that the number of occupational fatalities in the state rose to 34 last year. That's an increase of nearly 79 percent from the year before. Of those 34 workplace deaths, 10 were in natural resources and mining.
Mead said Thursday in Casper that the mineral extraction industry is one of the most dangerous. But he says the state needs to see fewer worker deaths.
The governor says he's expecting a report soon about workplace safety issues and he hopes that will help find ways to reduce worker deaths.
