WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) — United Technologies Corp. has won a maintenance contract worth up to $350 million to support Japan Airlines' fleet of Boeing 787 aircraft.
United Technologies said Monday that its subsidiary, Hamilton Sundstrand Corp., would provide the maintenance for the fleet of 35 aircraft.
The contract runs for 10 years, and gives Japan Airlines the option to extend it for an additional 10 years. If the contract is fully extended, it will be worth the total value of $350 million.
Hamilton Sundstrand, a Windsor Locks, Conn.-based supplier of aerospace and industrial products, will provide inventory support services, repair services, logistics, and technical cooperation for several systems within the planes. Hamilton Sundstrand said it is the largest parts and systems supplier for the Boeing 787, offering about 1,300 parts per aircraft.
Japan Airlines is among the group of airlines that placed early orders for the Boeing 787. The airline and its partner companies move about 41 million passengers a year to 221 destinations in 40 countries.
Shares of industrial conglomerate United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., lost 2 cents to $87.68 in afternoon trading.
