PITTSBURGH (AP) — Airplane maker Boeing says deliveries of its commercial jets slid 22 percent and orders fell 11 percent in August, as airlines cancel or postpone plans to buy new planes.

Chicago-based Boeing said Thursday it delivered 28 passenger and cargo jets last month. That's down from 36 during the same month last year, according to figures posted on the company's Web site.

Boeing says it received 32 orders in August, down from 36 in the same month of 2008.

Boeing Co. has struggled with weaker orders as the economic turmoil of recent months saps demand for air travel.
