Toyota Begins Offering Data Transmission Service

Toyota Digital Cruise Inc., a Toyota Motor Corp. arm offering telecommunications services, said Thursday it has started providing overseas data transmission network services for auto parts suppliers that have business transactions with Toyota.

TOKYO, Aug. 30 (Kyodo) — Toyota Digital Cruise Inc., a Toyota Motor Corp. arm offering telecommunications services, said Thursday it has started providing overseas data transmission network services for auto parts suppliers that have business transactions with Toyota.

The new service is designed to facilitate moves among such companies to relocate production and marketing bases to foreign countries against the backdrop of the yen's continued strength, Toyota Digital Cruise said.

The network will facilitate the exchange of information between parent companies and their overseas bases, including the exchange of auto parts-related data, for which a high level of confidentiality is necessary, it said.

The network, to be operated on the basis of a leased circuit, will be used for data transmission and teleconferencing.

Toyota Digital Cruise will build up the network, while supervising the operations of the network single-handedly, it said, adding the company will also provide maintenance services.

The network will enable its users to take advantage of relevant services at costs 20-30 percent lower than those charged by other network service providers, it added.
