STURTEVANT, Wis. (AP) — An Italian paper and packaging company is opening its first North American headquarters in Racine with a promise to create 189 new jobs.

The Journal Times in Racine reports Thursday that Seda International Packaging Group says it will invest $76 million in its Racine operation. The facilities will employ printers, engineers, machinists, machine operators and operations people.

Gov. Jim Doyle enticed the company with $5.7 million in state assistance for Seda, which chose Wisconsin over sites in Toronto and Pennyslvania. The company's managing director says a personal pitch from Doyle as well as Wisconsin's well-trained workforce are major reasons behind its decision.
