CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A federal prosecutor says a former chief executive had lavish spending habits — including $353,000 worth of pens, some made of gold or silver.
The evidence was presented Thursday at the Central Islip (EYE'-slip), N.Y., trial of David H. Brooks.
He founded DHB Industries, Inc., the nation's leading supplier of body armor to the U.S. military.
Brooks is accused of falsely inflating the value of the inventory of the company's top product, the Interceptor vest, to help meet profit margin projections. He's also accused of making unauthorized expenditures.
Brooks denies wrongdoing.
On cross examination, the president of an upscale pen company said he didn't know whether Brooks gave them out for business purposes.
