ROCKFORD, IL — The city of Rockford may offer financial incentives to a company that hopes to hire 75 new workers to staff a plant in a rehabbed industrial building.
The Rockford Register Star reports that the city has proposed offering $150,000 in grant funding to Delicate Plastics. The company wants to rehab an industrial building in a low income neighborhood.
The proposal would require the company to hire some employees who have criminal records or may lack previous work experience.
Workers would be paid between $12 and $15 an hour and would be offered job training.
The company converts waste product into pellets that can be used to make plastic.
The Rockford city council could take up the proposal as early as Monday.
