WASHINGTON (AP) — The Hershey company says a Maryland candidate is milking its iconic chocolate bar for political gain.
The Pennsylvania-based Hershey's filed a lawsuit Friday in federal court in Maryland accusing state Sen. Stephen S. Hershey Jr. of improperly using campaign materials that mimic the look of a Hershey's candy bar.
Among other things, the company wants a judge to bar Senator Hershey from using materials with the word Hershey "in block text or on a brown or maroon background" and to pay for the cost of the lawsuit.
Hershey said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign's actions were lawful.
He served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2011 to 2013, when he was appointed to a state senate seat. He is now running for re-election.
