EDMONTON - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people not to eat a brand of beef steak sold in an Edmonton store because it may be contaminated with potentially dangerous E. coli.
The agency says several people have become sick after eating Kirkland brand strip loin grilling steaks sold at Costco.
The steaks were sold at the store's 50th Street location and have packing dates ranging from Sept. 4 to Sept. 7.
The CFIA doesn't say which beef plant the steaks came from or if the product could be in other stores, but says it is working with the manufacturer to remove the steaks from the marketplace.
Since Sept. 16, the agency has issued at least seven recall alerts for XL Foods Inc. ground beef products made at the company's Lakeside plant in Brooks, Alta.
Canada revoked the plant's permit to export beef to the U.S. on Sept. 13 at the request of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is also recalling XL Foods products in eight states.
