The USDA has announced the award of over $75 million in grants, research and education to improve food security around the world. The grants were awarded to 21 universities to help increase the availability of food in an effort to eliminate hunger across the globe. Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan said,
"The grants announced today will help policymakers and others better recognize the food and nutrition needs of low-income communities in our country, while improving the productivity of our nation's agriculture to meet those needs."
