Gerber Products Co., Del Monte Foods, Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. and others are named in a lawsuit filed by Environmental Law Foundation. The group claims that baby foods and juices produced by the companies contain levels of lead that require warning labels under California Proposition 65, but that the companies have failed to label the products. Michele Corash, an attorney for the companies named in the suite, wrote in court documents,
"Despite the trace amounts of lead in the products at issue, the federal government has determined that Americans need to eat more — not less — of these nutritious foods."
