The Food and Drug Administration is expected to announce a ban Thursday on unhealthy trans fats. The FDA will mandate that food manufacturers gradually phase out the fats. Though no timeline has been set, director of the advocacy group Center for Science in the Public Interest Michael Jacobson said:

"Six months or a year should be more than enough time, especially considering that companies have had a decade to figure out what to do."
