Authorities ID Worker Killed At Tyson Plant

Authorities have released the name of a worker who died in an accident at the Tyson Foods plant in Dakota City in northeast Nebraska.

DAKOTA CITY, Neb. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a worker who died in an accident at the Tyson Foods plant in Dakota City in northeast Nebraska.

The Dakota County sheriff's office says 37-year-old Rodney Bridgett was injured early Thursday when a piece of equipment he was working on collapsed on him. Bridgett, a maintenance worker, died at a hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson (MYE'-kuhl-suhn) says federal safety officials are being notified and a company team also is investigating.

Mickelson says the company's beef slaughter and processing plant was not in operation when Bridgett was injured. The company canceled Thursday morning's first-shift operations in the beef carcass production area of the plant because of the accident.
