Neb. Turkey Plant Continues To Grow

The owners of Nebraska's only turkey processing plant expect to expand production and nearly double its current workforce of 50 in 2012.

GIBBON, Neb. (AP) — The owners of Nebraska's only turkey processing plant expect to expand production and nearly double its current workforce of 50 in 2012.

The Midwest Meat Packing Facility plant in Gibbon is also celebrating its second anniversary this week since reopening in 2010 with an investment from New York-based AMSA International.

The plant slaughters and processes turkeys.

The plant's office manager Tami Baker says the company expects to have close to 100 employees by the end of the year.

The previous owners had to close the plant in December 2008 because of high feed and fuel costs. At the time, the plant employed 225 people full time.
