BALTIMORE (AP) — Food processing company Protenergy Natural Foods is expanding in Cambridge, Md.

Gov. Martin O'Malley announced Tuesday that Protenergy Natural Foods plans to add up to 100 new full-time jobs by April 2013 and hire another 27 employees over the next five years as it increases production capacity to meet growing demands for its soups, broths and sauces. The company currently employees about 53 people.

The company is buying the 67-acre site and 200,000 square-foot building it currently leases in Cambridge, its U.S. headquarters.

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development is helping the company buy the property with a state-backed loan guarantee on a $3.6 million bank loan. The department says the company expects to invest about $20.3 million in the project.

The company is based in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
