RAVENNA, Neb. (AP) — The cheese plant at Ravenna in central Nebraska has closed as expected, costing the city more than 170 jobs.

Friday was the last day of production at the Leprino Foods plant. Plant officials had blamed a diminishing dairy supply for the plant's closure.

Leprino Foods had operated in Ravenna since 1998, when it purchased the facilities from Dairy Farmers of America. The plant produced mainly string cheese for its mozzarella cheese company based in Denver, but also made some whey products.
