PWP Industries has announced the opening of one of the first in-house plastics recycling facilities by a thermoforming company. PWP will work with Coca-Cola Recycling LLC to recycle PETE post-consumer bottles into FDA compliant resin for food contact. The new facility will be located in Mineral Wells, West Virginia.

“Recycling PETE bottles will allow PWP to increase its product range containing post-consumer resin, save energy, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and keep plastic materials out of landfills. We are fortunate to be able to work with Coca-Cola Recycling LLC who is as committed as we are to a greener future for our planet,” says Ira Maroofian, President & COO, PWP Industries.

Making plastic products from post-consumer recycled plastics has a tremendous impact on the environment. For example:
- Recycling one ton of plastic saves 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide.
- The energy saved by recycling one plastic bottle will power a computer for 25 minutes.
- Each ton of plastic bottles recycled in a recycling center saves 7.4 cubic yards in a landfill.
- Resin made from recycled PETE bottles saves about two-thirds more energy than virgin resin.

The recycling facility will open in the second quarter of 2009 and will bring more jobs to West Virginia.
