Tyson Cited For Safety Violations

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued 10 violations against a Tyson Foods Inc. meatpacking plant in northeast Nebraska. The federal agency on Tuesday cited the Dakota City plant for one repeat and nine serious violations following safety and health inspections initiated in May.

The federal agency on Tuesday cited the Dakota City plant for one repeat and nine serious violations following safety and health inspections initiated in May. The alleged violations include failing to ensure that fixed ladders were maintained in a safe condition and that personal protective equipment was worn when necessary.

Proposed fines total $71,500.

Arkansas-based Tyson Foods has 15 days to respond. Company spokesman Gary Mickelson said they are reviewing OSHA's concerns.
