PLANO, Texas (AP) — PepsiCo Inc.'s Frito-Lay North America snack division said Tuesday that by the end of 2011 about half of its snacks, including Lay's potato chips, Tostitos tortilla chips and SunChips, will be reformulated to contain only natural ingredients as it seeks to attract customers looking for healthier eats.

The snacks will not contain any artificial or synthetic ingredients, including artificial flavors or preservatives and monosodium glutamate (MSG). Six dozen varieties of Frito-Lay products will be made with all natural ingredients, including the products above plus its Baked! Brand snacks and Rold Gold pretzels.

"Many of the unflavored snacks in our portfolio are already made with all natural ingredients, and we've focused on expanding our portfolio of products with all natural ingredients to include more of consumers' favorite flavored products," said Ann Mukherjee, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Frito-Lay.

The reformulated products will have a stamp on their packaging identifying the snacks as being made with all natural ingredients. A marketing campaign that includes TV and print ads, in-store promotions and Facebook tie-ins will begin Jan. 1.
