STURGIS, Mich. (AP) — Federal inspectors who were at a Michigan infant-formula plant last winter discovered no significant problems, months before the company found beetles near the production line.

North Chicago, Ill.-based Abbott Laboratories recently recalled several brands of Similac formula, although the company said the possibility of bug parts in the products was remote.

The Food and Drug Administration this week posted inspection reports online. Inspectors who were in Sturgis, Mich., in March listed a few concerns, including no verification of hand sanitization at the employee entrance to the processing area. Abbott said it would be corrected.

The FDA says it looked at pest control notebooks. There was no elaboration.

Abbott has said it expects to lose $100 million because of the recall.
