DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) — Sara Lee Corp. said Friday that it has completed its $87 million acquisition of Aidells Sausage Co.

Aidells, based in San Francisco, is known for premium sausages such as artichoke and garlic chicken sausage.

Sara Lee, which makes frozen desserts, Senseo coffee and other products, had announced the buyout earlier this month. The company has said the deal will help broaden its presence in the premium meats category and strengthen its North American meat business.

Earlier this month Sara Lee said that it is considering selling its international bakery and North American refrigerated dough businesses. The Downers Grove, Ill., company has already sold several business lines and is in the process of splitting into two companies.

Sara Lee also reported on May 5 that it returned to a profit in the second quarter, but cut its full-year outlook because of rising commodity costs.

Shares of Sara Lee gained 30 cents to $19.60 in afternoon trading.
