The civil defense agency in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz says the dead from Saturday's blast have not been identified and it is unclear whether they were plant workers or neighbors of the facility near the city of Orizaba.

About 600 people have been evacuated from homes in the general vicinity of the plant.

The company's website says it produces ethanol for medical and other purposes.

It is not clear what triggered the blast.
