PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A second man has died after a salmonella outbreak that has sickened dozens of people and may be linked to a Rhode Island bakery.

The Rhode Island Department of Health says the unidentified man died Thursday after being hospitalized and testing positive for salmonella. He was in his 90s and was from Providence County.

The health department says he ate a baked item made at DeFusco's Bakery in Johnston, which voluntarily shut down last month until further notice.

Several people who were sickened with the same strain of salmonella told health officials they ate doughnut-like pastries called zeppoles (ZAY'-puh-luhz) that were made by DeFusco's.

The pastries also were sold at other stores around the state and have been recalled.
