HARRISON, Ark. (AP) — A food distribution company says it will lay off 225 workers after closing a plant in Harrison as part of an acquisition by another company.

Rhode Island-based United Natural Foods said last week it would sell its non-food and general merchandise lines to L&R Distributors in New York.

UNFI's chief financial officer, Mark Shamber, told The Associated Press Monday that the Harrison plant will be closed once the deal is cleared. UNFI will also lay off 125 people who work in supermarkets nationwide.

Shamber says the company intends to focus on organic and specialty foods after the sale.
