LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — A Lubbock County recycling plant fire left one worker hurt in a blaze that firefighters fear could burn for weeks.
The blaze on Tuesday continued burning asphalt, wood shingles and other recycled items at a site near Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.
New Deal Fire Chief Randy Teeter says the fire, which broke out Monday night, apparently was related to a spark from a worker's vehicle.
Teeter told KCBD-TV that the injured worker was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock. His condition was not immediately available Tuesday.
Teeter said one previous large fire at the recycling pilot lasted about three weeks, and "I've got a feeling we're going to be here for a while on this."
The pile has caught fire several times since 2002.
