SMITHFIELD, Va. (AP) — Smithfield Foods Inc. has sold a Texas hog production facility to Wayzata-Minn.-based Cargill Inc. for about $33 million.
Smithfield Foods President and CEO C. Larry Pope says the transaction announced Wednesday is part of the international food company's strategy to shed non-core assets.
The Virginian-Pilot reports Smithfield had reduced the number of sows at the Dalhart, Texas, facility in August 2009.
