COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A pet food company says it will add about 275 jobs as it expands its plant in Columbia.
The State newspaper reported Mars Petcare plans to spend nearly $130 million as part of the expansion over the next five years.
Company officials say the expansion will more than triple the number of employees at the plant.
The company also plans to build a regional distribution center in central South Carolina that will account for about two dozen of the jobs.
Company spokeswoman Julie Lawless says the company is responding to increased demand.
The plant produces several brands of pet food sold nationwide.
Mars acquired the plant in 1998.
