GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A California organic food maker says its plans to open a plant in South Carolina and hire 700 workers have been put on hold.

Amy's Kitchen says it has encountered unexpected problems renovating a former bakery along Interstate 85 in Greenville. The company says demand for its products are so great it needs more manufacturing capability now, so it is expanding some existing facilities instead.

The company says it will decide what to do about the announced plant in Greenville in the next few months.

The plant was one of several new large employers touted in South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's year-end job video titled "2011: The Year Jobs Began Coming Back to SC."
