VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) — A turkey processing company says it will build a new plant in southwestern Indiana that could have up to 600 workers in the next few years.

Huntingburg-based Farbest Foods Inc. announced Thursday it planned on spending $69 million to build a 220,000-square-foot processing plant on 100 acres near Vincennes.

Farbest president Ted Seger says the company's current processing plants in the nearby towns of Huntingburg and Dubois are being used at nearly full capacity. The company says it now has about 850 workers and oversees the production of more than 10 million turkeys a year with about 170 contract growers in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.

Farbest says it has started hiring engineering, administrative and maintenance workers for the new Vincennes plant, which it expects to open in January 2014.
