SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A legal dispute over a proposed $150 million wood-burning power plant in Springfield is scheduled to be heard in March.
The plant's developer, Palmer Renewable Energy, filed suit against the city and the Zoning Board of Appeals in March 2011. A hearing in Land Court in Boston is scheduled for March 17.
The building commissioner issued two first-stage building permits for the project, but the city Board of Appeals overturned the decision.
Palmer Renewable Energy is proposing the 35-megawatt, wood-to-energy plant on the grounds of the Palmer Paving Co. property.
A lawyer for the developer tells The Republican (http://bit.ly/1fhMJsL) the building commissioner was correct.
An attorney for the zoning board says the building commissioner overstepped his authority because the project's special permit was revoked by the City Council.
