Alliant Energy To Build In Marshalltown

An Alliant Energy official says the utility has received the necessary permits for a power plant in Marshalltown and expects to begin construction this summer.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — An Alliant Energy official says the utility has received the necessary permits for a power plant in Marshalltown and expects to begin construction this summer.

The Marshalltown Times-Republican reports (https://bit.ly/1hIVeSw ) Alliant representative Kenn Vinson told the Marshalltown City Council on Monday night the utility received an air permit from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. That was the last permit needed and will enable Alliant to petition the utility board for approval to build the plant.

Alliant, with Iowa operations based in Cedar Rapids, previously said its planned natural gas-powered plant will cost roughly $750 million and generate about 600 megawatts of electricity.

Alliant spokesman Ryan Stensland says the company plants to "sink steel" in Marshalltown this summer.

The company has previously said it hope to start operations in 2017.
