NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) — Plans to build a biotechnology facility in northern Vermont that could employ up to 500 people have taken a big step forward with the approval of the project by the Newport city development review board.
Developer Bill Stenger said the next step on what is to become the AnC Bio Vermont plant will be to get approval from Vermont's land-use permit process known as Act 250.
"I believe we will get Act 250 approval because the permit application will address the 10 criteria of Act 250 in a very complete way," Stenger told the Caledonian Record (https://bit.ly/1htMYV3 ).
"We never take Act 250 approval for granted but feel this is a solid project and we have thought long and hard about all the elements of the commission's interest," he said.
Stenger said he expected work to begin this summer on the plant, which will manufacture medical devices.
The application calls for a four-story, nearly 85,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, which is scheduled for completion by late 2015.
The AnC Bio plant is a key part of an economic development plan for northeastern Vermont led by Stenger and his partner.
