PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Officials say two people are hurt after a piece of equipment malfunctioned at a plant in Philadelphia, spilling about 50 gallons of hazardous material into the Delaware River.

WPVI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/146sEmR ) the spill happened around 11 p.m. Sunday at a Kinder Morgan Company facility in the city's Port Richmond section. Officials say 50 gallons of phenol, which is also known as carbolic acid, spilled into the river.

Two workers were taken to the hospital after they were exposed. They're in stable condition.

Officials say the situation has been placed under control.
