An Italian company that's proposing a solar-power plant in Arizona will discuss its plans at a meeting Tuesday on the Ak-Chin Reservation.

The Arizona Republic reports (http://bit.ly/XBckDU) that the company, Marisol Energy 2, wants to build a plant near the town of Maricopa and the Sonoran Desert National Monument that would generate enough power for 75,000 homes when the sun is shining.

It is unclear where the electricity from the power plant might be sold.

Neither Salt River Project nor Arizona Public Service Co. has agreed to buy power from the project.

It is possible the plant would try to sell it to a California utility, or that it is being proposed as a merchant operation, selling power on the open market.
