Innovation at Pharma Conference
Interphex 2008, a leading conference that covers the spectrum of life sciences, will run March 26-28 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. Billed as a trusted source for leading-edge technology, education, and sourcing of the products and services that drive scientific innovation for life sciences manufacturing, the event represents a cross-section of the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries. It will be co-located with PharmaMedDevice, a show that focuses on the convergence of the medical device, pharmaceutical, and biologic industries, and Biotechnica America, an event for companies in the biopharmaceutical and industrial biotechnology markets. Interphex is expected to feature more than 1,000 exhibitors this year, creating the largest gathering of the life sciences industry in North America. Below are some of the companies planning to exhibit cutting-edge products at the show.• Korsch America, South Easton, MA, will showcase the XL800 double-sided tablet press, which has been engineered for faster output and reduced noise levels, in Booth 701a. The XL800 boasts the highest output capability of any double-sided tablet press as well as an exchangeable turret design, offering 59 (IPD D), 71 (IPT B), and 87 (IPT BB) punch station configurations, that maximizes output for any size tablet. With an internal turret lifting device, it eliminates the cost and space requirements of an external lifting device.
• This year's Interphex will be a key show for the UK's Freeman Technology as the company extends its presence in the U.S. The powder characterization company will exhibit its FT4 powder rheometer in Booth 1169. The FT4 has evolved to become a universal powder tester and is proving important in linking processing experience with powder characterization data. This extension of basic process understanding translates into better powder formulation and improved process design.
• Netzsch Fine Particle Technology LLC, Exton, PA, will feature small-batch nanoparticle equipment for wet-grinding in Booth 1412. The MicroCer, a laboratory-sized mill, offers metal-free fine grinding with chamber parts in wear-resistant Yttria stabilized zirconium oxide. Its centrifugal separation system employs grinding media from 0.05 to 0.8 mm in size, considered the smallest in the industry.
• StrongArm Designs, Horsham, PA, will highlight its line of stainless steel operator interface mountings and systems in Booth 545. They are engineered to improve efficiency and cleanability in sensitive pharmaceutical environments. One example is the Pharmaceutical Suite-Station with NEMA 4X stainless steel construction and crevice-free design. It fits entirely into the confines of a shallow wall and features an inset keyboard to minimize protrusion into the room. In-wall design allows access to interior components without compromising the wall seal.
• Microfluidics, Newton, MA, will exhibit its portable M-110P Microfluidizer processor, a bench-top lab machine that requires no compressed air or cooling water for hydraulics, in Booth 1618. Designed to operate reliably, quietly, and efficiently at up to 30,000 psi process pressure, the portable M-110P only requires a standard 20-amp, single-phase "household" electrical outlet and can be incorporated into any laboratory setting.
