Rotor Detection System (486)

The Rotor Detection System (RDS) monitors the electrical isolation between the rotor and the valve housing. If a rotor vane touches the valve body - even if only for a split second - a warning is sent to personnel via the plant SCADA system and/or the valve is immediately shut down.

The Rotor Detection System (RDS) monitors the electrical isolation between the rotor and the valve housing. If a rotor vane touches the valve body - even if only for a split second - a warning is sent to personnel via the plant SCADA system and/or the valve is immediately shut down. The design works by connecting both the rotor and valve body to a controller via a slip ring commutator. The controller includes an isolated switch amplifier to remotely monitor the system using an intrinsically safe circuit.
