The Pine Bluff Arsenal advised that nearby residents may hear explosions during the week as the facility demolishes a pollution abatement system.

WHITE HALL, Ark. (AP) — The Pine Bluff Arsenal advised that nearby residents may hear explosions during the week as the facility demolishes a pollution abatement system.

Work to bring down the building is to begin on Monday as part of the closure of the arsenal's chemical weapons disposal facility.

The arsenal is to use explosives to fell the structure.

Disposal of chemical weapons was completed in November 2010. Since then, the arsenal has worked to decontaminate the facilities and associated equipment.

The arsenal destroyed nerve agents and mustard gas from 2005 through 2010.
