The world's first commercial-scale gas-to-liquid (GTL) plant was commissioned last month in Qatar, according to Foster Wheeler, which designed the facility. The $950 million plant was built for Oryx GTL at Ras Laffan Industrial City. Oryx GTL is a joint venture between state-owned Qatar Petroleum and the South African-based petrochemical company Sasol. The plant uses Sasol's low-temperature distillate process, which is based on Fischer-Tropsch technology.
