-- Clariant, a world leader in Specialty Chemicals showcased the 'Easily Dispersible Pigments range' at the Paint India 2012, Outreach Conference in Chennai recently. Mr. Nitin Vaidya, Head - Technical Services, Pigments - Coatings Business, Clariant Chemicals (India) Limited, Incorporating the theme of "Better Raw Materials for Better Coatings", touched upon very crucial points for the industry, but what was more captivating were the benefits for the economy and the ecology as well: Clariant's special organic pigments can be easily incorporated into paint systems with a dissolver, lowering the manufacturing cost by reducing the grinding period thus saving the energy. Otherwise, pigment dispersing in the conventional method is a very specialized, time consuming and expensive process which requires high-priced technical equipments and know-how as well. Almost 220 technocrats were present from different companies including Asian Paints, Kansai Nerolac, Akzo Nobel, BASF, Nippon Paints, MRF Coatings, etc.
ED Pigments
ED pigments can be dispersed with high speed dissolver using cowles blade with no additional milling. To achieve optimum colour and strength on the high speed dissolver, the pigment goes through a special surface treatment with a high efficiency and wide compatibility additive during the manufacturing process. ED pigment can also be dispersed using bead mills at reduced dispersion time compared to that required for conventional pigments. Three ranges of ED pigments are available viz. EDS for solvent borne coating, EDU for solvent and water borne coatings and EDW for water borne coatings.
