Bioethanol production capacity in the EU's 10 new member states is likely to increase nearly 10 times by 2008 from 2005 levels, according to a report released by the European Commission. The EU expects a total of 20 production facilities in six of the 10 new member states to be online by 2008. The EC predicts that Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic will become bioethanol "powerhouses" over the coming years. The report also estimated that Poland and the Czech Republic's biodiesel production capacity would double between 2005 and 2007.
