Using Color to Figure Out Pressure

Free samples are available of an interesting new pressure indicating sensor film from Sensor Products in Madison, NJ. By changing color, this thin sensor film reveals stress distribution and magnitude between any two surfaces that come into contact. The intensity of the color is quantifiable and makes it possible to determine the psi at any point on the contacting surfaces. The film color is translated to pressure by comparing it to a color calibration table or by using an optional imaging system. Pressure indicating sensor film can be used in R&D and QC for such applications as validation and calibration of sealing die pressure during food and drug packaging. The film also can be used to verify and record pressure distribution during equipment setup, preventive maintenance and product changeover for various form/fill/seal, deposit/fill/seal and CAP/MAP systems.
