PORT HUDSON, La. (AP) — Federal health officials say they have opened an investigation into a paper mill south of Baton Rouge.
Elizabeth Todd, spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Labor's branch in Dallas, said Tuesday the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating an incident at a Georgia-Pacific plant in Zachary.
Patty Prats-Swanson, a spokeswoman for Georgia-Pacific, said a complaint was filed by OSHA against KBR, the contractors they hired to do construction on an older section of the mill. A message left with the construction and engineering company based in Houston was not immediately returned.
Prats-Swanson said they hired a lead abatement service to test paint at the mill, which was built over 50 years ago. She said it's standard procedure to test for lead before renovating older buildings.
