A group of legislators, business and utility leaders has repeated a call to defeat a ballot proposal that would force Michigan energy providers to increase output from renewable sources.
The Clean Affordable Renewable Energy for Michigan Coalition that's also known as CARE said Tuesday that the ballot initiative would cost jobs and raise utility rates.
Energy providers now must get 10 percent of their energy from renewables by 2015.
The ballot proposal would require electricity suppliers to get 25 percent of their power from wind, solar, biomass or hydropower by 2025.
The Michigan Energy Michigan Jobs coalition says it would create jobs and investment in renewable energy.
Dow Chemical Co. makes solar products and could benefit from the proposal. The Midland-based company hasn't taken a position on it.
