CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia may have lost out on Shell's multibillion-dollar chemical plant that was awarded to southwestern Pennsylvania, but the Mountain State could be in the running for a consolation prize.
CEO Len Dolhert of South Charleston-based Aither Chemicals tells The Charleston Gazette (https://bit.ly/wI6svd) that an announcement is expected Wednesday on where it will locate a so-called cracker plant.
Dolhert says Aither has plans to build several such plants in Appalachia.
Shell will build a plant about 12 miles from the West Virginia border.
Dolhert says Aither would expect to get a similar tax break offered by the state to Shell. At Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's request, the Legislature passed a bill to slash property taxes for 25 years in exchange for an investment of at least $2 billion.
