COHOES, N.Y. (AP) — A bridge in the Albany area has reopened to traffic after being closed for more than 24 hours because of a fire at a plastics manufacturing plant.
The span carrying Route 32 over the Mohawk River reopened around 5 a.m. Friday, about 28 hours after a fire broke out at Shelter Enterprises, located along the bridge's southern end in Cohoes (kuh-HOHZ'). The stubborn blaze destroyed a large section of the plant and forced authorities to shut down the bridge and the road, which is used by commuters heading to jobs in Albany.
The business employs 40 workers who produce building materials and foam packaging.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
