Three Killed by Chemical Fumes at Car Wash

Fumes from a chemical tanker being cleaned at a car wash in central China have killed three people.

BEIJING (AP) — Fumes from a chemical tanker being cleaned at a car wash in central China have killed three people.

The official Xinhua News Agency says a car wash worker fainted after climbing into the vehicle's tank to clean it. It says three people, including the driver, rushed to help but were also overwhelmed by the fumes.

Xinhua says three died and a fourth was being treated at a local hospital Wednesday in central China's Hunan province.

A local Hunan news portal showed firefighters wearing gas masks as they removed one of the victims of Tuesday's incident.

The accident underscores widespread disregard for safety measures when transporting dangerous materials in China.
