COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has sent an additional inspector to the Palisades nuclear plant in southwestern Michigan following word of a minor cooling water leak.
The Kalamazoo Gazette and WOOD-TV report that's in addition to two at the plant in Covert Township.
The reactor was shut down Sunday to allow workers to do a visual inspection and find the leak. The plant owned by New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. is expected to be returned to service once repairs are completed. The plant says the leak is from a control rod drive mechanism stalk.
The NRC says it learned of the leak July 10. The plant says the leak isn't associated with repairs earlier this summer that also forced a shutdown.
The NRC plans a public meeting Sept. 12 on the plant.
