Crews Clean Up Spill near Head of Passes

The Coast Guard says crews are cleaning up a spill of about 630 gallons of oil that came from a production facility in Bull Bay near the Head of Passes of the Mississippi River.

BULL BAY, La. (AP) — The Coast Guard says crews are cleaning up a spill of about 630 gallons of oil that came from a production facility in Bull Bay near the Head of Passes of the Mississippi River.

The Coast Guard says the spill was from a Gulf Production Co. facility on Monday. The agency says the discharge reportedly was due to the failure of a high-pressure separator from an Exxon well to the facility.

The agency says crews are working to contain the spill with 3,000 feet of hard boom and 9,000 feet of absorbent boom.

The Coast Guard reports that the well has been shut in. Several response boats and two drum skimmers were on the scene.
