SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — An explosion at a chemical factory in South Korea has killed at least three people and injured five others.

Police say the explosion occurred Thursday when five people were working near a tank truck carrying hydrofluoric acid.

The blast killed three of the workers and injured the two others. Police say three people living near the factory also were treated at hospitals after inhaling toxic gas.

Police say about 600 residents were evacuated to a community hall to avoid the toxic gas.

The cause of the explosion is still being determined.

The factory is in an industrial complex in the southeastern city of Gumi where a number of companies make TV and other electronic components.
