Ex-Tech at Entergy Nuke Plant Gets Safety Fine

A former radiation protection technician at Entergy Corp.'s James A. Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant on Lake Ontario has been sentenced to one year of probation for violating the Atomic Energy Act.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A former radiation protection technician at Entergy Corp.'s James A. Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant on Lake Ontario has been sentenced to one year of probation for violating the Atomic Energy Act.

Michael McCarrick of Oswego pleaded guilty to the federal charges in September. He was also fined $1,000 for falsifying respirator fitting test records relating to 32 workers at the plant in Scriba, N.Y., 35 miles northwest of Syracuse, N.Y. Fit tests are designed to establish a proper respirator seal, but the 55-year-old McCarrick didn't perform the tests.

Respirators are given to employees during emergencies, such as a chemical release that releases dangerous fumes.

There were no known injuries because of the falsified test reports.
